Better questions
Questions to ask your boyfriend, sorted by mood
This list is for when you want questions to ask your boyfriend that don’t all sound like a job interview. Some are light. Some are nosy in a useful way. A few need a quiet room and an actual answer.
Pick the mood you’re in and start there. Don’t try to do all of them in one sitting unless you both enjoy turning a normal evening into a long debrief.
They work over text, on a call, on a walk, or sitting next to each other doing nothing. The better answers usually come after the first one, so leave room for follow-ups.
Play it live instead of reading it out
How Well Do You Know Me is the live version: one of you makes a room, the other joins with a four-letter code, and you play it together on two screens. Free, no sign-up.

Deep questions to ask your boyfriend
Don’t open this section when one of you is half-watching something else. These questions work better when you can pause after the answer without making it weird.

Questions to ask your boyfriend about your relationship
These are about the two of you, not just him. Use them when you want to check how the relationship feels from his side without turning it into a performance review.
- 01What did you first understand about us before either of us said it out loud?
- 02What part of our relationship feels easiest to you, and why?

- 12What is one decision you think we should make as a team, not separately?

Getting the most out of them
Start with eight, not eighty
Choose a handful from one section. If the conversation gets good, stop reading the list and follow that thread.
Answer your own question too
If you ask something personal, be ready to answer it yourself. It keeps the conversation from feeling like an interview.
Don’t punish a careful answer
Some answers need a minute. If he pauses, let the pause happen. Filling it too fast usually gets you the safer answer.
Save the deep ones for the right setting
Deep questions work best when neither of you is rushing, hungry, or trying to type around three other things.
Questions about this list
What are good questions to ask your boyfriend over text?
Use questions that can be answered in a few lines without losing the point. Cute and funny questions work well over text. Deep questions can work too, but only if you’re both actually available to reply properly.
How many questions should I ask at once?
Five to ten is usually enough. If you ask too many, it starts to feel like a worksheet. A good answer with two follow-up questions is better than racing through the whole list.
What should I do if my boyfriend gives short answers?
Try asking for a specific example instead of asking the whole question again. If he still gives short answers, switch to a lighter section or leave it for another time. Not every mood is a question mood.
Are deep questions too serious for a new relationship?
Some can be. Start with getting-to-know-him questions first, then move deeper if the conversation is already open. You don’t need to ask the hardest thing first to learn something real.
Can we turn this into a two-player game?
If you want something with scoring, How Well Do You Know Me is a separate two-player browser game on this site. It uses set prompts: one of you predicts the other’s answer, the other answers honestly, then you reveal together and alternate who the round is about. It’s free and has no sign-up.
