For a live call
Something to do while you're both already talking
If you're searching for games to play on call, you probably don't need another group activity or a huge setup. You need something for two people who are already on voice or video, with one browser tab open beside the call.
Some of these games need proper talking. Some still work if one of you is on mute and can only click, type, draw, or listen. One person makes a room, sends a four-letter code or link, and the other joins. No accounts, no downloads.
Make a roomWhat to play, in order
- 01
Same Page
3 minStart here if the call is still warming up. You both answer the same question in secret, then reveal together, so the game keeps moving even if one of you is quiet for a minute. The talking comes after the reveal, when you realise you did or did not pick the same thing.
- 02
Red Flag, Green Flag
6 minGood for a casual call because the decisions are tiny and weird. You can play the mechanics on mute — red, beige, or green — but the disagreements are much better out loud. It usually gives you something to argue about without making the call heavy.
- 03
Doodle & Guess
5 minThis is the best pick when one of you can talk and the other can't. One person draws, the other types guesses, and the drawing appears live as it goes wrong. If the guesser is muted, it still works because guesses go in the box.
- 04
Two Truths & a Lie
6 minA safe one if you want the call to turn into stories. You type three statements, they guess the lie, then you swap. It can run quietly, but the real bit is explaining why a true thing sounded fake.
- 05
Escape Room
18–22 minPick this when both of you can speak clearly. Your screens don't match: one of you sees the room and the other has the manual, so you have to describe colours, numbers, and positions out loud. If one person is muted, save this for later.
- 06
Murder Mystery
22–28 minThe longer call game, and the one that most needs voice. You split up inside the same house, find evidence the other person cannot see, and talk through it until the case fits. It runs about twenty-five minutes and ends with an accusation you both have to stand behind.
Making it work
Keep the call and the game separate
The games don't run inside Discord, FaceTime, Zoom, or WhatsApp. Keep your call where it is, then open the game in a browser tab beside it.
Pick for the speaking situation
If both of you can talk, choose something co-op and descriptive. If one of you is on mute, choose a game where the browser handles the answers, guesses, or drawing, then talk through the result when you can.
Use the code if the link is awkward
One person starts a room and gets either a link or a four-letter code. The other person can join with either one, which helps if you're reading it out over a call.
Stay online at the same time
These are live games, not turn-based messages. You both need to be online together. If someone drops off, they can rejoin the same seat in the same game.
Questions
What are the best games to play on call with 2 people if one of us is on mute?
Same Page, Red Flag Green Flag, Doodle & Guess, Two Truths & a Lie, What Kind of Pair Are You, and How Well Do You Know Me can all handle the basic clicks or typing in the browser. You will miss some of the arguing, but the game can still move.
Can these work as games to play over the phone instead of video?
Yes, as long as both of you also have the game open in a browser. A normal phone call is fine for the talking part; the room code, answers, drawings, and puzzles are in the browser.
Can I use them as games to play on call with friends?
Yes, if it is you and one friend. Rooms hold exactly two people, never three or more, so they are not built for a group call.
Do either of us need an account or an app?
No. One person makes a room, sends the code or link, and the other joins in a browser. Nothing to install, and no account for either player.
Do the rooms stay open if we pause?
They clear after a day of quiet. If someone briefly drops during a game, they can rejoin the same seat in the same room.
Ready?
Make a room, send the four-letter code to one other person. No account, nothing to install, works on a phone.
