For two friends, two cities

Catching up is easier when you're doing something

Friendships at a distance tend to die of admin. You schedule a call, you both give the state-of-the-nation update, and thirty minutes later you've exchanged news without actually hanging out.

These are eight games for exactly two people that give you something to do while you talk. None of it is couples-shaped, none of it needs an account, and the whole thing runs in a browser tab.

What to play, in order

  1. 01

    Escape Room

    18–22 min

The one to open first. You each see half the puzzle, so it turns into an hour of shouting colours and numbers at each other. Far more like actually being in a room together than a call is.

  2. 02

Thirty small human behaviours, judged red, beige or green. Fast, very funny, and you'll discover your oldest friend has a genuinely unhinged opinion about something trivial.

  3. 03

A shared canvas and a secret word. The strokes appear live on their screen, which is the closest thing here to messing about at a kitchen table.

  4. 04

Works even on people you've known for fifteen years — arguably better, because you both think there's nothing left to learn.

  5. 05

Ten daft questions and one joint verdict on the pair of you. Good for a group chat afterwards.

Making it work

Twenty minutes is enough

You don't need to block out an evening. Most of these are between three and eight minutes, so they fit inside a normal catch-up.

The escape room is a two-person job

If there are three of you, it won't work — rooms hold exactly two, and the puzzles are built around the split.

It's fine to be bad at these

Nothing here rewards skill. The drawing game in particular is better when neither of you can draw.

Questions

Is it free?

Completely. No account, no payment, nothing to install.

Can three of us play?

No — rooms hold exactly two people. A third person trying to join gets turned away, because the games are designed around information being split between two.

Do we need to be on a call?

There's a chat in every room, so you can play without one. But the escape room in particular is much better spoken.

Ready?

Make a room, send the four-letter code to one other person. No account, nothing to install, works on a phone.
