Don't lead with the deep one
The 36 Questions are extraordinary and completely wrong for the first hour. Earn them.
Play something co-op early
The escape room puts you on the same side, which does more for a first date than any competitive game will.
Keep it short if it's not landing
Most games here run three to eight minutes, so nothing commits you to an hour.
